Seems this is going on south of the boarder also. There is an article on
slashdot
http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=02/12/28/0255216&mode=thread&tid=99

about Mexico's federal police raiding an importer of blank Cd's, because
the music industry in Mexico only uses 20% of the Cd's this company
imports. There reasoning is the other 80% must be going to copy music.

I guess the next step here in the US would be to outlaw selling of blank
Cd's or maybe registering all the Cd's you own. Then they can be traced
when a crime is committed with one. You know like we do guns, we all saw
how effective gun registration was in catching the DC snipper. We also
know all the Cd's that are sold to anyone other that music industry are
used for coping music. I mean why would anyone want to save files to a
Cd? You can't play those in your car. Or why would you want to create a
Cd with an OS on it you can boot or many other reasons for using a CD.

Will this ever end? Not as long as the justice department can be bought
off and the RIAA and Microsoft have enough money to do that. But us in
the IT industry, hell we can't even afford to keep all of our people
employed. <I just had to get that in there, as I'm sill looking for a
job :) >
