The config file is significantly different, but significantly easier to
work with. Keep a backup of your old one and refer to it while setting
up the new one though.

XFree86 4.0 knows a lot more about various "non-standard" monitor types
and will probably detect everything correctly and automatically. It can
tell with my laptop (and reports in the log file too) for example, if
I'm using the internal LCD or if I've got an external monitor plugged
in.

It's a *significant* update and well worth the effort to get it working.
