I am wondering if something mat be done with the Lizardtech tools, esp. 
their Linux-based file compression.  The tinier the images the more 
quickly managed.

If it is faster and better I doubt this will be a serious impediment ... just need to crank up the buzz and
everyone will come looking to get their new plugin!  :-)   It was not very long ago when no-one had heard
of Flash ... like a few months!

If only for reasons of developing for scale this makes great sense!  Why build a system for one vendor 
when many may share the same avatar-type platform?  Sure sounds right!
