It's a UNIX-alike microkernel based OS and has a reputation for being
incredibly stable. It's used for a lot of embedded devices. One of the
very neat things about QNX is that because of its microkernel-ish
architecture, you can actually swap out the kernel while the system is
running. If you're familiar with Linux, QNX is quite similar.

There's a free (for personal use) download of their latest OS and you
can also download their very impressive "Internet browser & OS on a
1.44MB floppy disk" demo from their website.
