[SLUG] gnome problem

last night at work I booted up my laptop w/ RH7.1 on it and if I logged in as
my user ---my panels were gone from my desktop!

If I logged in as root the desktop was fine.

any ideas on how to get my panels back?
anyone know what directory stores that info?
