Actually, that is his long term goal.. years ago,
(early 90's), He designed a medical related database
software package, based in FoxPro. It was one of the
few DOS packages that would work on a simple client
based network. Since his programmers and him are very
familiar with FoxPro, he has never switched. He has a
product that works and is making him a decent income.
The database canbe hosted on 9x, NT, W2K, Novell, Unix
and Linux(w/Samba).
Now, he is very interested in using a Linux based
platform. The software is used in about 400 hospitals
nation wide. Unfortunately, the average user of the
software is a Nurse or Volunteer that may have varying
user experience. He has the vision of offering a
hardware, Linux/software solution, that he would
market. It would provide the same user interface,
networking/client database abilities. We have
discussed several approaches to the problem of
platform conversion. Completely re-writting it in C++
would provide some ease of conversion to another
platform. Other alternatives we have been looking at
are MySQL, PHP, XML.
