It was the BIOS settings. Somehow changing a power supply causes a few
things to happen:

1) The NIC cards' IRQs to conflict.
2) A prevalent amount of duplicate/bad sectors on one partition which
    again leads to the destruction of /var/spool/mail/mark
3) The aforementioned user placing 0 0-23/12 * * * cp <mail spool> <dest>
    into a crontab to try and keep this from happening again.
