I switched to windows to get away from the insecurity of it. Granted I
don't run a server, only a home based machine to do word processing,
graphics, banking, etc.etc. I do some small programming items (now in
Linux, windows was too much of a pain to deal with). I keep track of
virus's warnings and weaknesses in both windows and Linux. The real
difference is really very simple. The hackers in Linux are proud of their
work and if a vulnerability is found, it is fixed within days of finding
it, which limits the damage that can be done by someone else. In windows,
well you could wait until Hell freezes over to get a fix, and then have to
do special dances and chants to get it to actually install without mucking
something else up. Bottom line is simple too. Microsoft worries about
money and power, not their products, or the people who use
them. Linux/Unix worries about the quality of their work and the people
who use it. Just my 2C's, from a newbies point of view.
