[SLUG] Thoughts on ms approach to MDLUG

For those who don't know, MDLUG is the metropolitan Detroit LUG and is a
fairly large size lug, but smaller than SLUG. An earlier posting described
an agreed meeting with an ms representative with MDLUG. In my opinion, ms is
trying to penetrate the linux user base for several reasons:
1. Gather first hand intelligence
2. Sell certain linux users on their dotnet program, which would:
a. Hook those converts into the ms revenue stream, and
b. Alienate those linux users who refuse to compromise and do business with
ms. This would polarize the linux user base.
3. Divide and weaken the linux user base by circulating black propaganda
about the major advocates and personalities of linux who oppose ms, as well
as, competing applications companies such as Sun Microsystems, who produce a
rival office suite and internet applications service model.

While willingness to parlay with your opposition is one thing, there is NO
evidence they have anything of any great help to us. In fact, there IS
evidence that they want to get rid of linux, applications for it, and the
gpl. Any meeting with them should be regarded as an attempt to undermine
the linux user base, and in this case, at the grassroots level.
