Talks about open-source getting the "end-run around" with .NET but
offers a solution with a plug for JBOSS and encouragement for Java even
though it isn't open-source. The author seems to feel that the answer
to .NET is a complete_enterprise_web-services_e-commerce package and
that this is just not going to be available because open-source
developers didn't answer the bell (with a big finger pointed at
Apache.) To paraphrase, they lacked a marketing department to show them
the way. JBOSS is offered as an answer to IIS and Sun/Java as a
necessary partner. The author describes an alliance with Sun would be
like the alliance with Stalin to fight a bigger, current tyrant.
Open-sourcing Java is a later battle. Some good points made in the
article but, unfortunately I'm not completely familiar with all the
acronyms mentioned in the article. JBOSS is open-source, by the way.

The author is described as "a devout follower of the pro-humanity
Java-Linux religion." Java-Linux religion?

Questions:
Is there an open-source alternative to J2EE?
  Anybody have experience with JBOSS?
