Hello Sluggers.
I know you have all been waiting on pins and needles for the 4th of
this interesting series of questions.
Wait no longer!!! Here it is. And BTW eachof these have been
searched and researched in how-to's, faq's, read-me's etc. Guess I am
just too thick to understand what is going on.
Scanner....Cannot get it to install.... Details:
Artec A6000C Plus. This scanner IS supported in Linux. It came with
it's own generic ISA scsi host adapter card which is not named but is
identified as a DTC3181X and/or DTC3151X . Works well under Windoze.
Sane and Xsane are installed. I believe that the module I need to
use to load the scanner is sym53c416. I believe this because on a
previous post to comp.os.linux.setup I received the following reply.
"first you have to make sure that the generic scsi driver is loaded,
do a modprobe sg then you have to load the prober scsi module for
your scanner
on my system it looks like this
modprobe sg
modprobe sym43c416
these lines are in my rc.local"
Now, I don't have a sym43c416, but I do have a sym53c416. Maybe a
typo on the part of the person trying to help me?
However, when I try to load the sym53c416 module I get the following
message:
linux:~ # insmod sym53c416
Using /lib/modules/2.4.7-4GB/kernel/drivers/scsi/sym53c416.o
/lib/modules/2.4.7-4GB/kernel/drivers/scsi/sym53c416.o: init_module:
No such device
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters,
including invalid IO or IRQ parameters
linux:~ #
???????.... I can't find any IO or IRQ parameters for this host
adapter.
Another hint from the sane-artec.5 how to. The following quote:
"if your scanner came with a DTC ISA scsi card, you can probably use
it with the recent (2.2.0) kernels using the generic NCR5380
support. You must pass the following boot arguement to the kernel:
"dtc3181e+0x2c0,0""
Where is that arguement passed? In LILO?? And if so, where?
Hope that the Sluggers can sort this out for me.
Bob S.
Just another dumb pilot question
