[SLUG] Mailing w/ different FROM

Sometimes when I'm logged in as root, I want to send output to the
SLUG or Debian lists, but I don't want my email to read
root@(whatever.??).

How do I use or setup 'mail' to look like, let's say,
mario@alienscience.com sent the email. I don't want to use the
REPLY-TO field. I actually want it to be in the FROM field?
