Geez, if you ever find out, let me know!
I have a few machines that, once you've unplug the keyboard, stop
responding to keyboard input even if you plug it back in. The only
keyboard-related tool I'm aware of is "kbdrate" which runs fine, but
doesn't do anything as far as allowing the system to start responding.
Unfortunately, I think these are hardware issues, and nothing Linux can
do about in my case.
