If you look through the archives, I posted a pretty in-depth note about
the state of video capture (at least in terms of PVR) under Linux just a
couple of weeks ago.
The conclusion is, it's easy to do video capture using one of the
supported cards but don't expect very high resolution or full frame
rates without hardware compression, which is something that's either
non-existent or extremely expensive on capture cards that are supported
under Linux.
The cheap-o WinTV cards are possibly among the best supported but CHECK
THE MODEL NUMBER before buying - they're not all the same cards! Get
the right chipset or it won't work at all...
