Mike,
Try this: Edit > Preferences > Mail & Newsgroups > Message Display, then go
to the Language section at the bottom and see what character encoding you are
using. It should be Western(ISO-8859-1) or Western(ISO-8856-15)
Then hit O.K. and reload the email view. That will probably do it.
