My $.02;
Nmap is your first stop, (www.nmap.org). A very powerful program for
all manner of scanning activities. It should be one of the first tools
in your bag of diagnostic programs. The next is Nessus
(www.nessus.org). This is a much more involved installation, but does a
more thorough analysis of the target.
