You don't have permission to access / on this server.
Apache/1.3.26 Server at organic-earth.com Port 80
                                   (127.0.0.1)
                                   (192.168.xxx.xxx)

I can't see the problem in httpd.conf anywhere so apparently I trashed some
directory permissions.

Doc root is /var/www/html/
The custom "missing.html" page still works from that directory.
If named ( http://organic-earth.com/index.php ), the index page displays
properly.

hmmmmmmm ... what is missing is the default for the directory.

Apache is running in standalone mode (starts as root, switches to nobody /
nobody automagically)

'apachectl restart' was issued after each change and the browser deities
invoked to see if the error message had budged.

Perms are
drwxr-xr-x 21 root root 536 Jun 26 10:24 var/
drwxr-xr-x 8 apache apache 240 Jul 23 18:42 www/
drwxrwxr-x 14 apache bill 3296 Jul 23 18:32 html/

I will confess to not knowing what I am doing (and being darned tired to
boot) if someone out there in e-mail land will confess to knowing what the
problem is with the web site below.

I am not trolling for hits. Right now all hits are generating errors.

(Okay ... I found a kludge. I renamed (so as to remove from existence) the
index.html file and linked it to the index.php file. The answer works but is
a landmine waiting for me to forget it's there. I'd still like to know the
correct directive to cause
