Slackware 8.0 (2.2.19)

I recently uninstalled samba and then loaded a newer version from source. It
loaded and operated OK but didn't appear in the package manager utility.
Does anyone know why?

Detail on procedure: I got the source for samba 2.2.5, issued the following
commands:

configure (with a handful of options)
make
make install
