Red Hat 4.x and earlier will and install run just fine. The
OS on the hard drive which is now present on bopper started as
a RH 4.x series:
http://bopper.wcbe.org/uptime.txt
Bopper is described, although the math us no loonger updating
consistently with the boot date.
and I run RH 6.2 on a 12 M 486 notebook as my 'road' and site'
computer -- tcpdump, a pccard NIC, a NIC/modem combo -- run
just fine under twm. _yes_, X --
-- but for the described unit, it sounds like a text only box
to me.
