I am having a problem and I dont know where to start looking as far as fixing
it. Here goes
as root (logged in as root not su) I can open and run any gui but as user I
can run most progs but there are some that will not open. If I console and su
then enter the prog name it still wont open---but in the root window it
will-- as user doing su I get the following
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified

Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display: :0.0

Now I am at a loss as to what to reset or adjust. I realise it is something
that I have done inadvertely but cant seem to figure out what. I believe that
when I was doing an apt-get dist-upgrade it may have called for a
configuration that I overlooked or misunderstood and the settings were
changed. I say that because once upon a time everything was working fine. I
just dont know what to look for. When I looked in the x11 and x config files.
When I looked in /etc/X11/xserver there was a file -- security policy but all
it addressed was sitepolicyA and B and C but nothing as to what A B or C
policy was/were.
/etc/X11/Xresources doesnt address anything concerning permissions that I
could find. I just dont know what was altered or where it is. I would
appreciate any help.
Installed is Libranet but the dist-upgrade has altered it to KDE3.0.5a and
changed the basic Libranet settings but because it is still Debian ( sid ) I
would assume the the settings would remain, they havent and it was an
oversight on my part.]
I dont really understand this but I did try chmod u+s /usr/X11R6/bin/X
and that hasnt helped. Ive been reading google for most of the day and now Im
more confused then when I started.
Any suggestioins/help??
