Subject: [SLUG] Future Tampa meetings
I'll shortly be doing the announcement for the last meeting in Tampa at
the PwC location (in May).
I've received word that HCC is apparently unwilling to assist us in any
way to hold our meetings there. That seems a little confusing, since it
can't but help them to have us there. Unless someone has some definite
pull there, I'll have to consider the matter closed.
I don't really want to go back to Thomas Jefferson High School. It was a
good location, but had crappy facilities.
David Meyer has offered to let us use facilities at Computer Associates,
where he works. But I really don't want to go down that road. ;-}
There is at least one training company in Tampa which has offered in the
past to allow us to use their facilities. My apologies to anyone who
works at one of these, but my dealings with these people has left me
with the impression that I was dealing with used car salesmen. If I
shook their hands, I'd want to make sure I had some soap and water close
afterwards.
It's been suggested that we use the Tampa library downtown. I'm sure
there are people keen on this idea, but downtown Tampa is about that
last place I'd want to have to go for meetings. If that's the best
option we have, we may have to take it.
But I'll put out one more call for alternate locations. Something
preferably around TJHS or PwC, with room for 25-40 people, preferably
with internet, but not necessarily.
And of course, if some brave soul would like to run these meetings,
email me privately.
Paul
