What version of samba? If 3.0 see

It's fixed in CVS now ... you could try 3.0.1pre2 or wait for 3.0.1 to
be released proper but could be some time yet. I think using the read
list and write list share parameters is a sufficient workaround.

Also I'd create a test share that's wide open and keep locking it down till
it matches your other share to try and find the problem.
