If you mount both the intended directories on your local machine, then
rsync does not have to be installed on both. Moreover, rsync can be told
to delete files on the target machine that no longer exist on the source
machine, thus truly keeping things "in sync". I use rsync via a cron job
to back up my workstation to an unused drive on another machine. Handy.
