You are quite right, but you are of a rare breed among personnel managers.
Not many know the day-to-day details of the position or they'd be doing it
themselves.

In our own "major telecommunications company" we use Red Hat almost
exclusively on Linux-based IP solutions. If the interviewee has an RHCE on
the end of the name they've got a much better shot than one who doesn't.
The manager interviewing would be knowledgeable about the job skills so it's
not much of an issue, but you can't say that about personnel managers.

Until you choke in the clutch. Linux is still so new/GNU I could
fabricate a multitude of non-verifiable certifications, but the old
saying, "the proof is in the pudding," always adheres.
