Some Florida colleges and Universities are beginning to offer some decent
4 year degrees that build on technical AS degrees like the one offered at
HCC.

For example, University of Central Florida is offering a BS in Information
Systems Technology. I believe you need an AA or AS to be accepted, I think
the AS is preferred for this program. All of the classes can be taken over
the Internet, using WebCT. Testing can be proctored at SPC or HCC. In
addition, the classes are video taped, and streamed live, so you can view
them, and send text messages to the instructor while class is in session.
They are also available for viewing for the whole semester.

The quality of instruction varies, but as with everything in life, you get
out what you put into it, regardless of the instructor. Classes are
inexpensive, approx $80 a credit hour. So far, I've not had to pay any lab
fees.

This program is geared towards future Network Admins and Network
Engineers, with classes like WAN I and II, LAN I and II, Security classes,
Telephony classes, etc.

The IST program is also fairly liberal in regards to giving credit for
industry certifications.

I didn't mean to make such a long post, but I am quite happy with my
experience at UCF so far.
