You can also check out "bashprompt". It allows you to customize your bash
prompt to include time, date, process info, hostname, blah, blah, blah. In
lots of wondrous colors.
I have found it very handy for frequently used information. My current
bashprompt theme is shown below. Of course, you miss out on the color; each
item is shown in its own color in my terminal windows and on the console.
