"ls -ld /cdrom" and make sure it's a directory. Will a link to a
directory work also? Try mounting it on a known directory (any files
there before mount will be there after umount).

There is no ls command available and I did try mounting to an existing directory and it did not work. I'm wondering if this is a proprietary problem.
