Some would argue that "copyright" lifetime is effectively
unlimited, because Business/Lobbyists are good at convincing
the House/Senate to keep extending it ;). The Supreme Court
disagreed with this argument, though, defeating the challenge
to the 1998 Sonny Bono CTEA in 2003. Mickey Mouse did a
little dance while others grumbled about checks and balances,
the Founding Fathers, and the Public Domain and whatnot.

And to think, it all started with 14 years, with a
(not-automatic) 14 year extension before it fell into the
Public Domain... and that Disney's first full-length motion
picture was Cinderalla, courtesy of the Public Domain.
