You still need to buy MS-Office (etc) but you do not need to buy a copy of one
of the MS operating systems to run them on

Codeweavers has worked with WINE sufficiently to get it to run a number of MS
applications satisfactorily. If all you want from the MS world are the office
apps and a few select others, CrossOver Office may be all you need.

If you need to run Photoshop (or a 'side' application such as OneWireWeather)
in a production environment, you may not be satisfied with the results of
running it in CrossOver Office.

That's the short answer. Perhaps others would care to add to it.
