Exactamundo. That URL was probably mostly identification data that indicates a particular entry in their database which in turn indicates what email the response is coming from. By clicking on that link, or even copying and pasting the link to the browser, you've confirmed that you are a real person with a real email address. That validates you on their spam list, and signs you up for further mailings.
