There are, most likely, links called sendmail to your MTA. Example,
this box is Debian Sid using Exim:

sirus:/home/logan# find / -name sendmail
/usr/sbin/sendmail
/usr/lib/sendmail

sirus:/home/logan# ls -la /usr/lib/sendmail
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 12 May 13 18:21
/usr/lib/sendmail -> ../sbin/exim

sirus:/home/logan# ls -la /usr/sbin/sendmail
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 4 May 13 18:21
/usr/sbin/sendmail -> exim
