Well, give or take a lie or two.

You probably need to reconfigure it. Not knowing what config s/w you have with
your unknown distro I could not tell. But you could have redhat-config-mouse,
system-config-mouse or similar command.

Do a quick google for linux mouse config.

Google really is your friend.

Test it on another computer to make sure it's not broken if it still wont
work.
