What surprises me is that businesses didn't scream, holler, and thrash,
when MS first talked about automatic updates. If a computer and its app is
important to a business, the last thing one should do is blindly update the
OS.
The exec that was in charge of the programmers/computers/production started
in data processing in the 1930's (yes! punch card tabulators). He'd seen
it all and only upgraded OS's when the reasons were overwhelmingly
compelling. People would whine and complain that we were way behind, but
every time an upgrade was implement--even when virtually all the industry
had upgraded and (most of) the bugs shaken out--there were some production
bugs the popped (of course, at night, requiring hauling folk out of bed,
etc.). This automatic upgrade thing looks like a nightmare for businesses,
or folk, that depend on their computer.
