[SLUG] Rotten floppy disk

I have run into a problem that's running me up against a wall. I have a
new Asus A7V880 MB with an Athalon 3200 CPU, a Maxtor 250 GB HD, 1 GB of
DDR RAM and an ATI Radeon 9200 Video Card. I have divided the HD into
two (2) partitions of about 125 GB each, the first partition contains
Winblows XP Pro and the other is to contain Linux.

I have downloaded and installed Service Pack 2, all of the newest
drivers for the MB and I have the newest updates for the video card yet
to be installed.

I have one very big problem though, the rotten floppy drive will not
work and I can't figure it out. I have changed drives (5) ribbon
cables, read the manual (you know I must be desperate) all to no avail.
As soon as I reboot the machine the LED on the floppy stayes lit and if
I insert a blank disk in the floppy, a message comes up telling me to
insert a disk in the drive.

I have been building my own computers for the last 15 years and I have
never had this kind of stuff happen before. Can it be that all of my
spare floppy drives all went belly up at the same time? I even thought
of buying a new drive but CompUSA wanted $15.00 and I don't need a new
drive that bad.

Anyone have an ideas? All help is appreciated.

Paddy
