USB is probably the worst interface for block devices. I was at the
company that wrote the first driver for a USB WLAN device. You had to
write a lot of code in software (e.g., memory mapped I/O) that is
normally provided by hardware.

USB 2.0 EHCI controllers (UHCI=12Mbps/1.5MBps, EHCI=480Mbps/60MBps)
makes it tolerable. Intel has admitted that the efficiency of USB 2.0
is no where near FireWire, and 60MBps is no where achievable.

I think Intel regrets not licensing FireWire. Anyone remember "Device
Bay"? ;-ppp
