Mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/hda5, or too
many mounted file systems.

The only time I have seen the error was a bad hard drive. This assumes
you know what the fs is.

It could be that your kernel doesnt have support for vfat anymore, are
you trying this from knoppix? Or are you using the recovery kernel?
You also could try 'fsck'.
