I definitely make it a point to shun newbies at meetings! ;-}

Seriously, most people in the Linux community are exceptionally helpful,
and willing to explain points you don't understand. The people I really
shun are the snotty ubergeeks who don't have time for ordinary users,
and they don't usually come to meetings.

You _will_ encounter jargon and such you don't understand at meetings.
But you're more than welcome to raise your hand and get it explained
during the meeting, or snag the meeting leader afterward and ask
questions. I often spend time after the main part of the meeting
answering newbie questions in private.
