I only know LINUX, and I do not know anything RH,
but can you increase the verbosity of "the Gnome Sound
Recorder" and look at the error message or divert it to
a file to see what is wrong?
Like run "the Gnome Sound Recorder" from an x system console
and look at what remains after it crashes, I do this with
Slackware.
