webmin.com is great tool for configuring the samba server and many other
features. With samba comes SWAT (http://yourServer'sName:901) is also a
great tool for ease in setting up samba and a pdc.

It sais it's mission is to replace the PDC of a
Windows centric network instead of just being able to
communicate with it. You might want to give it a try.
Never tried it myself, but it was a good read.
