Just use a windows boot floppy, goto bootdisk.com
http://herrie.org/
http://club.cdfreaks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=86

those are the 2 best pages on the net about nec flashing.
I just upgraded my NEC 3520A dvdrw the other day. :)

Subject: [SLUG] DVD firmware flasher?

Somebody on dvdrhelp.com said that NEC support said that updating his
drive's firmware to 2.16 (he and I have/had 2.15, 2.17's out now) would fix
his (and my) inability to burn DVD+Rs. Anybody know how to flash an NEC DVD
drive's firmware under Linux? I downloaded the Windows flasher, but it
won't work under VMware and I don't have Windows native on my machine.

Are the only solutions "don't use DVD+R" or "take the drive elsewhere" or
"install Windows"?
