Actually. Brighthouse requires an inspection of a self-owned modem done by a
technician before putting it on their network. They do not give a discount
to people who own their own modem, so if you buy your own modem, and it's
damaged by lightning strike or any other prob, you then have to buy a new
one. If one of Brighthouse's modems is struck, they replace for free.
