I got caught in this upgrade a couple of years ago when my
connection disappeared. They tried to delete my then static IP* and
the modem couldn't be brought back to life. The fix was for them to
give me a new modem but I was down for a day. The new modem
is a ZyXel. It has 4 RJ45 ports (can support multiple lan IPs)
and a row of big green LEDs on the front. It's been pretty
dependable. The old modem was a Motorola, newer than the
old gray fat ones, it was about the size of a paperback book.
The Motorola's have a MAC starting with 08:00:3E btw.
