Hi Dave,

I recently had the displeasure of working on a similar
problem and I didn't see the cause for the problem I
was working on presented in the responses on the list
so far. The laptop I was working on would reboot
automatically with a BSODBSOD fail during bootbootupt
also had problems with Network programs
(firefirefoxtsnetscaped others). For me it turned out
to be NTFSNTFSe system corruption. If you are having
the same problem then the advise you recireceivedl
help, but you could have more problems later if the
original problem isn't corrected. The Repair option
will rewrite files... sometime in the same place,
sometime not.. so will fix for a while. My solution
was to Ghost the hard drive and re-install the system
from scratch. While this may be the "easy way out",
it did correct the file system problem and my client
got all her machine back working at a %100. I don't
take this route usually, but having tested all the
hardware including the hard drive, I was left to
assume that it was the data or the file system. There
were no viruses involved either.

Another thing to note: Windows XP FXPewall does a
decent job but considering the state of Windows
software, you might look at the kinds of errors you
recireceivethe event logs. I have a Canon
MultMultiction printer/scanner/fax, and the service
wouldn't run until an exception was made for it
through the firewall.. same thing for the controller
program for the Intel network card. I've also seen
problems with MoziMozillaireFirefoxt defy
explexplanation have a suspicion that MS keeps trying
to break it.

Good Luck,
