[SLUG] LCD monitor

I just got a shiny new 1600x1200 LCD monitor. Yay. Yes, my video card
has a DVI output. Yay. Unfortunately, the new monitor didn't come
with a DVI cable. Boo.

I use a VGA extension cable with my CRT, so I highly suspect that a standard
2-meter (~6-foot) cable won't do. So, does anybody have a 3-meter
(~10-foot) DVI cable hanging around?

Also, this monitor rotates from landscape to portrait (and back, of course).
Is there any way to make XFree86 switch orientations without restarting?
Automatic detection would be icing on the cake. I think xrandr can do it
statically. I'd even put up with a degraded, smaller display in portrait
mode if I could do it _at all_. I mean, generally XFree86 defines a virtual
desktop of <tallest defined screen>x<widest defined screen>, and a 900x1200
screen for use in the "portrait" orientation fits in 1600x1200, and it
wouldn't look _too_ bad...

with the cry of national emergency. Always there has been some terrible evil to
gobble us up if we did not furnish the exorbitant sums demanded. Yet, in retro-
spect, these disasters seem never to have been quite real. -- Gen. D. MacArthur
