I just did a search for it in the repositories and found a few packages for
it:

jconte@kunto:~ $ apt-cache search lshw
lshw - information about hardware configuration
lshw-common - information about hardware configuration
lshw-gtk - information about hardware configuration

So a quick apt-get on your debian box will probably fix that. I'm not sure
about Knoppix.
