The GPS is no big deal but what are you going to use for maps? Probably
the most mature is Xastr which is used by the amateur radio community
with the APRS system, but can be pressed into service as a gsp mapper
too.
This is a problem I run into, mapping is rather thin, but looks like it may
be starting to grow, sure hope so.
