This is a new problem. They worked correctly for months. Originally, I had
them on separate channels (hda and hdc), but then I changed cases (from
mini-tower to tower) and the cable would not reach[1]. Are there longer
ATA cables available? If not, I'll try to make the cabling reach in a
sub-optimal arrangement.

They're identical. If I took them out, I'd have to check the master/slave
jumpers to tell which is which.

[1] There are two DVD drives and two hard drives; HDs=hda & hdb, DVDs=hdc &
     hdd is the only way I could make the cables reach.
