Verizon is a notorious jerk when it comes to Internet access.

I recall when I first started with Linux 98 or so that I could connect to the
Internet with a MS system but could not connect with a Linux box. After 6
months of studding, trying, complaining I was advised to switch ISP. I did so
using the office ISP account and was on line within 5 minutes from time of
receiving advice. Later I learned that Verizon was at that time not allowing
those damn hackers to destroy their system by preventing anyone from
connecting to the system using Linux.

I will offer the same advice I received so many long years ago. Change
Internet provider.
