Nit: *Every* OSS-using gnu/linux application locks the sound card,
because that's how the OSS sound drivers work in gnu/linux. This is
easily worked around by using the (generally technically superior)
ALSA drivers, optionally with the OSS compatibility layer, which have
been part of the vanilla kernel for several years now.
