On a semilar tangent, anyone how to get debian to not require udev to be
installed?

Simple one word answer Slackware!

I too use btdownloadcurses, inside of a screen session.

another great option for machines that have issues, is I use pfsense for a
router and use btdownloadcurses and it downloads to a nfs share. on a file
server. But the same deal can be done with 54g rev 1 -3 or a 54GL
flashed with openwrt or ddwrt or any of the many open source wrt flavors

Also sense the lasted pfsense update I just plug in a spare usb drive insead
of using a network share.

This is useful as I can check on the status of it while at work.
It's also required since I typically download anime and such to my
workstation (which has a huge harddrive) while using my laptop (in the
living room)
so I can play it on the TV computer.
